A PTAS for parallel batch scheduling with rejection and dynamic job arrivals

چکیده
In the parallel batch schedulingmodel, a group of jobs can be scheduled together as a batch while the processing time of this batch is the greatest processing time among its members; in the model of scheduling with rejection, any job can be rejected with a corresponding penalty cost added to the objective value. In this paper, we present a PTAS for the combined model of the above two scheduling models where jobs arrive dynamically. The objective is to minimize the sum of the makespan of the accepted jobs and the total penalty of the rejected ones. Our basic approaches are dynamic programming and roundings. © 2009 Elsevier B.V. An Efficient Bi-objective Genetic Algorithm for the Single Batch-Processing Machine Scheduling Problem with Sequence Dependent Family Setup Time and Non-identical Job Sizes
This paper considers the problem of minimizing make-span and maximum tardiness simultaneously for scheduling jobs under non-identical job sizes, dynamic job arrivals, incompatible job families, and sequence-dependentfamily setup time on the single batch- processor, where split size of jobs is allowed between batches. At first, a new Mixed Integer Linear Programming (MILP) model is proposed for t...
متن کاملScheduling with Rejection and Non-Identical Job Arrivals
In this paper, we address the scheduling problem with rejection and non-identical job arrivals, in which we may choose not to process certain jobs and each rejected job incurs a penalty. Our goal is to minimize the sum of the total penalties of the rejected jobs and the maximum completion time of the processed ones. For the off-line variant, we prove its NP-hardness and present a PTAS, and for ...
متن کاملThe unbounded single machine parallel batch scheduling problem with family jobs and release dates to minimize makespan
In this paper we consider the unbounded single machine parallel batch scheduling problem with family jobs and release dates to minimize makespan. We show that this problem is strongly NP-hard, and give an O p n p n m + 1 Q m Q time dynamic programming algorithm and an O(mk k+1 P 2k−1) time dynamic programming algorithm, where n is the number of jobs, m is the number of families, k is the number...
متن کاملA bi-objective model for a scheduling problem of unrelated parallel batch processing machines with fuzzy parameters by two fuzzy multi-objective meta-heuristics
This paper considers a bi-objective model for a scheduling problem of unrelated parallel batch processing machines to minimize the makespan and maximum tardiness, simultaneously. Each job has a specific size and the data corresponding to its ready time, due date and processing time-dependent machine are uncertain and determined by trapezoidal fuzzy numbers. Each machine has a specific capacity,...
متن کاملMinimizing makespan with release times on identical parallel batching machines
We consider the problem of scheduling n jobs onm identical parallel batching machines. Each job is characterized by a release time and a processing time. Each machine can process up to B (B < n ) jobs as a batch simultaneously. The processing time of a batch is equal to the largest processing time among all jobs in the batch. The objective is to minimize the maximum completion time (makespan). ...
